Traditional watermill at Sarchos
Spread the word
The traditional watermill is located in the village of Sarchos, which is 22 km from Heraklion. The watermill dates from the late 19th century.
It consists of a rectangular, ground floor stone building with limited openings, a roof, a “zourgio” (covered culvert under the mill building), and a tank. All the buildings are in excellent condition.
The steps which lead to the mill tank and the artificial ditches that direct water from the river to the tank are of particular interest.
