Riverside route at Fodele
The settlement of Fodele is built at an altitude of 60 meters and is 30 kilometres from Heraklion. Fodele is the ideal destination for nature lovers since the Pantomantris river (also known as Fodelianos) creates an idyllic landscape. It is a unique riverside route among tall trees, water and caves. The river stands out for the rich flora and fauna that it hosts on its banks, and the visitors can enjoy their food or coffee here, under the shade of the ancient plane trees.
The dozens of streams that supply the river Pantomantris form waterfalls, such as the waterfall of Gria to Pidima, in Rehtra, with a total height of 80 metres. A little further down, the same stream creates other smaller waterfalls, just as impressive.
