It is an endemic plant of Crete. This is also evident from its name, which comes from the words "Diktis" (the name of the mountain) and "bush",, i.e. "The bush of Mount Diktis".
In the work of Theophrastus, father of Botany, he states: "Dittany is a plant that grows only in Crete». " It is also called "mouthwash" (chewing its leaves stops bad breath), or "attitamos" (because it helps digestion).
It grows only on steep slopes and inaccessible parts of mountainous areas and hilly areas, mainly in the mountains of Crete, at an altitude of up to 1600m. It blooms and is collected during the summer months.
