Tradition refers to this plant as healing (it cures the "five nerves," i.e. the five senses of man), mainly used for insect bites and wounds that are slow to heal.
Pentaneuro has large leaves in which five nerves protrude, hence its name. It grows in moist places. Its leaves have a sweet and light taste and are collected from December till July.
In the rest of Greece and Europe, it is considered suitable only as a drink, while in the Cretan cuisine, it is added to the variety of wild edible grasses.
