The stamnagathi plant is a thorny shrub. With these bushes, they covered the mouths of pitchers so that bugs would not enter the water.

It is easy to distinguish it with its characteristic, thorny inflorescence. In recent years, it has been cultivated, apart from Malevizi, in various Crete areas and outside. As Dioskouridis informs us, this "medicine" for people of the past enjoys - justifiably - much appreciation in its production area. It is collected and eaten with oil and vinegar.
