Church of Panagia
The old church of Panagia is located in the picturesque village of Kamariotis, which is 29 km from Heraklion.
The two-aisled church is built on the edge of the village, on a small hill, close to the church of Agios Georgios. Inside the temple, immediately after the entrance, an arosolio (a kind of tomb) dominates the place. Only a part of its decoration can be seen from the many layers of lime. Finally, the central part of the murals consists of scenes from the Christological cycle and the Virgin Mary’s life.
