Krousonas - Livadi “Meadow” Plateau
Livadi Plateau is located 9 km west of the village of Krousonas and 35 km southwest of Heraklion, on the eastern slopes of Psiloritis. It is a beautiful place, and if you visit it, especially in spring, you will be amazed by the beauty of the flowering pears and apples. Access to the plateau is via a dirt road from Krousonas, which runs parallel to the Krousonas Gorge (also known as the Gaidourorachi (Donkeyback) Gorge).
In many parts of the plateau, the waters stagnate and, through underground sinkholes, reach the cave of Sarhos, located west of the homonymous village. The many churches built on the broader area (Agios Methodios, Agios Charalambos, Agios Onoufrios, Agia Anna, etc.) by the inhabitants of Krousonas also make an impression. The oldest church is that of Agios Ioannis, with the unique view of Heraklion. For this reason, it is also known as the "veranda of Crete".
