Agios Antonios Gorge
The verdant Agios Antonios gorge is located west of Ano Asites, which is 24 km from Heraklion. The entrance to the gorge is from a downhill path that starts next to the half-ruined Byzantine church of Agios Antonios (where there is a source of drinking water) and ends near Panagia Faneromeni in Kerasia.
The gorge is the ideal destination for nature lovers with small waterfalls and dense vegetation of large plane trees. Also, the gorge is part of the European path E4. Finally, there are 80 species of flora (4 protected), 24 species of fauna (11 protected), and 16 species of birds (8 protected).
