Traditional Karaboutzes Café at Krousonas
The traditional Karaboutzes cafe is located in the old market of the large village of Krousonas, which is 21 km from Heraklion. The name "Karaboutze" came from the grandfather of the family, who was dark-skinned. "Kara" means black and "butzes" black currant.
The traditional cafe cuisine is based exclusively on traditional recipes with pure Cretan raw materials. As it is known, Crete has one of the oldest and most delicious gastronomic traditions in the whole world. The history of the Cretan diet and cuisine is lost in the depths of time. It is the continuation of a tradition that began in the Minoan era and reaches the present day.
