The traditional village of Kamari is built among wonderful olive groves at an altitude of 230 meters. It is 5 km from Tylissos, 19 km from Heraklion and has about 113 permanent residents. The Kamarian river passes right next to the village. In the past, Kamari was known in the broader area as "little Paris". In 1577 it was mentioned by Francesco Barozzi, with the inscription Camari mirtocamaro, while in 1583, it is mentioned by the Castrofilaca (P. Castrofilaca), with the name Mertocamaro with 94 inhabitants. Also, in the first Ottoman census, in 1671, it is mentioned as Kamari with 23 taxpayers.
In the centre of the village is the impressive two-storey house of "Mimikos brother". That was the brother of the protagonist of the actual romance "Mimikos and Mary", who served as a doctor in Kamari. In the village, the visitor can also cool off at the old marble fountain with the Arabic inscription. The old Primary School also houses the Museum of Wine and Vine, which was inaugurated in 2019.
Finally, a short distance from the village, in an area overgrown with vines, is the restored two-aisled Byzantine church of Panagia and Agios Pantos. At the same time, the square is dominated by the three-aisled church of Agios Nikolaos, the village's patron saint.
