Church of Agios Ioannis
The church of Agios Ioannis is built in the traditional settlement of Kalesa (Kato Kalesa), which is located 3 km southeast of Gazi. It is an old cave - church that we do not know when it was built. Agios Ioannis is a chapel whose history is followed by many legends and traditions. Some argue that it has existed since the Byzantine period, while others say that, in the old days, Russian priests had come here to officiate the church.
The church celebrates on the 29th of August. On this day, the celebration has been connected with the execution of seven Kalessans by the German Occupation troops, in 1944, at the place called Krousaniotikos Langos.
