The Municipality of Malevizi is organising the Malevizi Festival for the third consecutive year. This major cultural celebration will take place at Michalis Katsamanis Square in Gazi from September 5th to 7th.
The Festival aims to offer a unique three-day event full of music, dance, culture, and flavours from our country, with free admission for all. The program of the 3rd Malevizi Festival promises even more surprises and experiences for young and old, as visitors will have the opportunity to watch renowned artists, try local products, and participate in cultural activities and events that highlight the region's rich heritage.
All the creative Malevizi, the elements of the mountain and the sea, the production and artistic-visual creation, the authentic folk culture, introduce themselves to the world, create, entertain, dance, compose, and originalize.
Friday, September 5th, 2025
The grand celebration begins dynamically at 7:00 pm with the BATALA percussion band, who will cross Gazi with their drums, stirring up the crowd and leading them to the square for the Festival's opening.
The Choirs of the Municipalities of Malevizi and Amathus of Cyprus will join Vasilis Ximeris in a musical meeting dedicated to Mikis Theodorakis' 100th anniversary of birth.
At 20:00, the Choir of the Municipality of Amathus (Municipality of Germasogeia, Cyprus), under the direction of Dr. Solon Kladas, presents a tribute to Mikis Theodorakis, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth.
20:30 – Participation of performer Vasilis Ximeris.
20:45 – Adult Choir of the Municipality of Malevizi, under the direction of Eva Koutsoyiannaki – Pitsikaki.
At 21:30, Dimitris Bassis and Vicky Karatzoglou take the stage with excellent musicians in a highly aesthetic concert, with beloved songs that have left an indelible mark on the Greek pentagram.
Saturday, September 6th, 2025
The evening opens at 8:00 pm with Dimitris Pagomenos, one of the most talented young artists, with his own songs as well as well-known hits.
The legendary Pyx Lax will follow, returning to Crete to give the Malevizio audience a concert full of emotion, energy, and timeless songs loved as much as in Greece.
Sunday, September 7th, 2025
“MALEVIZIOTIS TIS ZOIS MAS GENNIMA”: a tribute to Maleviziotis dance and song. We discuss, analyse, listen, and get to know in practice Maleviziotis dance and music in its historical path and evolution. Maleviziotis has been included in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture after systematic scientific documentation of the Municipality of Malevizio since 2023.
Representatives of the ministry, scientists, the documentation team, and Cretan music artists and dance teachers will reveal all the details of the most characteristic and beloved dance of the region and Crete.
The Festival closes on the same day, with a great tribute and awards to traditional artists who draw their origin from Malevizio, with dance groups and cantada. Nikos Gonianakis, with his band, will seal the Festival's last night with his exuberant presence.
The Malevizi Festival has now established itself as an institution that unites people and highlights the place's cultural wealth. Music, dance, tradition and contemporary creation coexist in a celebration for everyone.
Admission is free for the public to all events and activities.
