Lygaria beach
Lygaria beach is located in a natural bay 2 kilometres east of Agia Pelagia. It is a beautiful beach with thick sand and crystal clear water, ideal for relaxed summer moments under the sun.
Lygaria bay is relatively closed so as to protect the beach from the summer north winds, keeping the water calm and protected from the strong waves. The rocks with the irregular forms, the light-coloured sand and the turquoise water, combined with the small boats that dock at the bay, form a picturesque scenery that satisfies the eye's senses. The beach is very organised with sunbeds, umbrellas and showers. Also, you will find many shops, coffee bars, taverns, and a scuba diving school for lovers of exploration. There are also many rooms for your stay.
It would be best if you were careful when you enter the water, as stone along the coast makes the access to the sea hard. Look for the small sandy paths where the stone has been removed by the locals and enjoy your swim.
The church of Panagia is located southeast of the settlement, and it constituted the catholicon of the monastery of Panagia Lygariani or Deligara, where it took its name from. Nowadays, it is wrong to link the name of the area with the plant wicker (λυγαριά=wicker) since, as we can see from the historical documents, it got its name from the Venetian feudal lord of the area, Ligara.
