Spiliotissa Gorge
The small gorge of Spiliotissa, also known as the gorge of Rechtra, is located north of the village of Rodia and ends west of Paleokastro. The canyon, which is almost 1500 metres long, is divided into two parts by the village's main road. The name Spiliotissa is attributed to the large church of Panagia Spiliotissa located at the bottom of the gorge. The picturesque temple is built on an impressive rock roof and celebrates the first Friday after Easter. The name Rechtra comes from the 10 metres high waterfall inside the gorge. At this point, we should note that "rechtra" is the waterfall in the local dialect.
At the beginning of the gorge, the visitor can see the old watermill of Cuckoo. But what makes the biggest impression is a cave located in the middle of the canyon. Finally, to the right, a church dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damianos, whose memory is commemorated on the 1st of July, is housed in another cave.
It should be noted that the site is not easily accessible to anyone unfamiliar with the area.
