The small coastal settlement of Made is located in Lygaria and is built at an altitude of 118 metres. It is located at the northern end of the gulf of Heraklion, at Cape Bourouni of Rogdia. It is 20 km from Heraklion and just 1.5 km from the beach of Lygaria.
It is said that the settlement's name is due to the texture of the phyllite-quartzite rocks of the area that break or "crack" very easily. According to local tradition, the settlement's name is due to the shepherds who took their animals there before the first houses were built. They would stand on the mountain above the bay, look down to the sea, and shout: "Look, look, look" (ma des), and somehow the place's name came out.
The visitors can enjoy their swim on the homonymous beach with the two characteristic rocks in the settlement. With its white pebbles, Made beach is organised with umbrellas and sunbeds. It is one of the quietest beaches in the broader area of Agia Pelagia.
