Patron Saint of Korfes - Church of Agia Triada and Agios Georgios
The church has been the patron saint of the village of Korfes since 1885 (which is 20 km from Heraklion) and is located in the square on the highest ledge.
It is a two-aisled church. The right aisle is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and the left aisle to Agios Georgios. Each aisle has two entrances. At one door, on the west side of the church with the two lintel arches, there is a commemorative inscription bearing the architect's name. The construction of the church began in 1882 and was completed in 1885 by architect Georgios Marinakis from Karpathos. Seven lime kilns were needed to complete the temple and each villager, returning from the countryside daily, brought a stone to help its completion.
The wood-carved iconostasis of the church is handmade, carved by craftsman Manolis Lestakis, also known as Lestomanolis. Its construction lasted two years and was completed in 1887. It is an excellent work of art, one of the most beautiful temple iconostases in the late 19th century Crete. Finally, the bell tower with the three bells stands out.
