Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior
The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is located in the village of Rodia, which is 9 km from Gazi and 16 km from Heraklion. The parish church of the village celebrates on the 6th of August.
It is a three-aisled basilica with a dome. The central aisle is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior, while the other two aisles are devoted to Moses and Prophet Eliah.
In the place where the church is located today, there was an older church of the same name, from which icons that date back to 1910 are preserved. The former cemetery of the village was in the same area. The current church was restored to the foundations of the old church with construction works that began in 1984.
