Church of Zoodochos Pigi
The stone-built church of Panagia in Loutra (just outside Tylissos) is dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi, as one of the springs, from which the settlement of Tylissos is watered, is located nearby.
Initially, it was a small cave temple, until when part of the rock collapsed and the temple needed to be rebuilt. The place-name Loutra is found in various parts of Crete and means the place where there is water. The small church owes its name to this spring since all the temples of Panagia Zoodochos Pigi were built near water springs, in a movement of the faithful to thank God for the gift of precious water.
The area around the small temple and its source are overgrown with vineyards and olive groves, while the slope close to the temple has a beautiful forest. Finally, inside the temple, the large number of icons placed by the faithful is impressive.
