The Municipal Gallery of Malevizi, in co-organisation with the Municipality of Malevizi, is hosting its first international exhibition titled GRAFIKA, featuring 37 works by 18 professors and doctoral graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The exhibition is curated by Eleni Sapountzi, curator of the Municipal Gallery of Malevizi, and the opening will take place on Sunday, May 3rd at 18:30.
The art of printmaking, throughout its long history and evolution, although often undervalued compared to painting and sculpture, has played a major and multifaceted role in shaping art and everyday practice, laying the foundations for one of the most important inventions in the history of culture: typography.
Polish printmaking, with its own distinct history and development, has been shaped with the support of Polish institutions such as the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, a cultural cradle of Poland for two centuries. The GRAFIKA exhibition opens a dialogue between artists of the Polish Academy and the Greek public, highlighting printmaking as a shared field of artistic exchange and reinforcing the idea that art, culture, and communication transcend geographical and national boundaries.
Participating artists: Magdalena Boffito, Paulina Buźniak, Agnieszka Cieślińska, Nastazja Ciupa, Aleksander Czekaj, Mariusz Filipowicz, Rafał Kochański, Le Mai Nguyen-Zaniewska, Dorota Optułowicz McQuaid, Błażej Ostoja Lniski, Aleksandra Owczarek, Piotr Siwczuk, Piotr Smolnicki, Jacek Staszewski, Wojciech Tylbor-Kubrakiewicz, Andrzej Węcławski, Kamil Zaleski, Karolina Zimna-Stelmaszewska.
The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual (Greek–English) catalogue, as well as new educational programs for all school levels. Guided tours for adult groups will also be available upon request.
