Marathos Women's Association
In the mountain village of Marathos (which is 13 kilometres from Tylissos), the Women's Association "Decorated (xobliasto) cookie) stands out for its important work.
The Association was founded in 2000 when the women of the village decided to look for a professional way out as well as personal satisfaction by reviving their grandmothers' recipes and cooking secrets. The name of the Association refers to the custom of the best men cookies, which are unique, handmade cookies that are given to the best man or the godfather of a child. In the Cretan dialect, "xobili" means "ornament - decoration".
In addition to the homonymous product, the Women's Association also produces all kinds of traditional sweets, such as melomakarona, kourabiedes, cookies, kalitsounia and sourdough bread. Today, these products are distributed in many points of sale in Crete and, of course, all over Greece.
